Cowboy (Cowford Regulators)

The Cowford Regulators are a SASS affiliated Cowboy Single Action Shooting Discipline. They shoot single action revolvers, double barrel shotguns, pistol caliber lever rifles and other guns from the old west period of about 1850 to 1900. Matches are held usually on the fourth Sunday of the month at the Gateway Multi-purpose range and usually consist of five stages. Sign up starts about 8am and match begins about 9am. Cost is $10 for SASS members, and $12 for others.

Ammo: Usually about 60 rounds pistol, 60 rounds rifle, and one or two boxes of  shotgun shells 7-1/2 size shot or smaller. Bullets must be non jacketed lead!

Guns: Pistols are often Ruger Vaqueros, Colt Clones, and other fixed site and adjustable site single action revolvers. Rifles are often Winchester ‘94, Marlin Cowboy, Henry’s, Yellowboys, Rossi lever guns, etc. Shotguns can be side by side coach guns, Winchester pumps with exposed hammer (1897), and mule ear shotguns.

Dress: Minimum shooter dress of long sleeve shirt, jeans, boots, and cowboy hat. No dress requirement for spectators.

The Cowford Regulators, as we are called, host an annual match called the Cowford Stampede. This match is a two day match with lots of fun and action. Shooters travel from all over the state of Florida to enjoy this unique and exciting match. This match is usually held in November, the week-end before Thanksgiving.
